If you suffer with back pain and you haven't tried the static-back-position (SBP) now is the time. It is the simplest but most effective ways of relieving low-back pain that I know and I recommend it to almost all of my patients.

I'm not sure when the SBP was first used but I have discovered that it practitioners of all disciplines use it including The Alexander Technique, Yoga, Pilates, Feldenkreis, Physiotherapy to name but a few.

There are so many reasons for its incredible success and I'll try and summarise them for you here.

  • The hips, pelvis and low-back are all in a neutral position without any stress or stretch passing through. Gravity puts a small degree of traction through the low back stretching out the vertebrae and reducing the tone of the muscles.

  • So much back pain is caused by compression between the last vertebra L5 and the sacrum S1. The SBP introduces a small degree of traction between the joints reducing any pressure that builds up between the joints.

  • Tight gluteal muscles tend to also give pain due to their high tone and also by compressing the sacroiliac joints together. The SBP again, using a gravity reduces the tone in the glutei and introduces a small gapping of the macro-iliac joints reducing tension felt in the joint.

  • The SBP introduces a small degree of traction from the pelvis all the way up to the neck allowing a flattening of all the spinal curves and reducing the pressure build upon the joints.

The Flexibac180 takes the Static Back Position one step further. As well as allowing the user toast the SBP, once all the muscles and joints are nicely relaxed and soft, the user can now stretch the back through 180 degrees. This means that all the joints from the pelvis, lumbar spine, thoracic spine and neck get an amazing stretch helping the body to be flexible and ready and ready for the day
