Ever got our of a chair having sat for a while and felt that your hip-muscles just weren't doing their job? After sitting for a long time our muscles and ligaments tighten. When we change position, say to stand up and walk, the muscles have to quickly change their job. If they can't adapt quickly we feel stiffness in our hips.
Anyone who has a desk job sits with hips flexed. For this reason, the sitting needs to balanced out my stretching the quadriceps and hip muscles.
Muscles are a bit like dough, stretch out the dough, it returns to its old shape. Stretch it a few times and it starts to adopt the new shape. So too with muscles. Muscles are the body's most dynamic tissue and so regular stretching will help restore flexibility to the joints. Together with gentle exercise, something as easy as a twenty minute walk 5 or 6 times a week, stretching can reverse the clock for those stiff hips!!
